Another example of a gender role is the image of girls loving Barbies and princesses, and boys loving trucks and action. Although it is true that girl do play with more Barbies than boys, why is there a image that all girls are innocent and shy, while all boys are loud and trouble makers? That is the image I seen when I see TV commercials. Here are two videos, one is of a commercial for a girl's toy, the other is a commercial for a boy's toy.
I think this type of gender role stays the same no matter what type of medium. It is going to be the same thing in a book, or a movie, or as the case is here, a TV commercial. This type of gender role is also solely created in the media we have. If advertisers were to show both boys and girls playing with action figures or any other type of toy that boys normally play with, the view of society would be different, society would then think of something like that as completely normal.
